Good Squad Effort
We travelled to Mersea with six first team players unavailable for this re arranged fixture.
The players that travelled did themselves and the club proud against a hard running and big Mersea side.
Mersea shot into and early 14-0 lead after 2 converted tries.
Crusaders near the end of the first half started to put increasing pressure on the Mersea line. Good scrums and pick and gos by the forwards saw us awarded another penalty try.(thats 4 in the last 6 weeks great effort by the forwards) Converted by Robert Loone on the stroke of half time 14-7.
Crusaders started the 2nd half strongly and were camped on Mersea line
a great pick and go by George King saw him crash over 14-12 conversion missed.
Mersea hard runners saw them extent their lead with 2 tries to make the score 26-12.
All credit to the squad they never gave up and caused Mersea to recieve 2 quick yellow cards. Off quick ball from the forwards James Garner put James Diaper in for his first try 26-17. Crusaders were pushing for the 4th try and losing bonus point when Mersea broke of a scrum that should have been reset as was never not moving to run the length of the pitch 31-17 final score.
The spirit of the squad was brilliant and massive thanks to the players that stepped up.
Mersea is one of our longest trips and we must look to go there next year with a full first 18 as they can be beaten
