Rugby Results ECL1 Crusaders 20 - Ely 35
Crusaders got off to a blistering start against one of the league favourites - Ely. Excellent handling and support play resulted in early trys for Jack Petch & Robby Dye, Ely replied with an unconverted try but two penalties from Triston Smith gave the home side a 20 - 5 advantage.
Ely responded with some strong running backs and tested the Crusaders defence andwhen a Crusader clearance failed to make touch, the Ely fullback counter attacked and with a kick over the Crusaders defence and a favourable bounce he was able to catch and dive over for Ely's 2nd try. Ely's big forwards began to dictate the play and it was no surprise when a further try by the visitors reduced the score to 20 - 19 at half time.
Ely started the second half as they had finished the first and forward pressure resulted in three further penalties to give them a 20 - 28 lead, Crusaders having had George sin binned. Crusaders struggled to find their early form with the final pass failing to find its target. A further try for Ely was no more than they deserved for a splendid fight back.
