Crusaders bowed out of the Junior

Crusaders bowed out of the Junior Vase with a third round defeat to unbeaten May Baker. Crusaders made a good start and for 15 minutes good scrummaging and lineouts gave the visitors more than their share of possession but their rearranged back line failed to penetrate the home defence. By contrast May Baker made no mistake with their first incursion in the visitors 22 when a well rehearsed rolling maul from a lineout proved unstoppable for their first try. May & Baker's unbeaten run have been founded on their unstoppable rolling maulls and an identicical surge towards Crusaders line was ended illegally and George King was directed to the sin bin.
May Baker scored their second try from the short penalty which was converted. A third try for the home side gave them a comfortable 17-0 half time lead. Crusaders were finding it hard to adapt to the extremely muddy conditions where as the home side made good use of the grubber kick to penetrate Crusaders defence and increased their lead with a further try 22 - 0. Crusaders defended stoutly for most of the second half but May & Baker sealed a comfortable win with two late trys 36 - 0.
