Crusaders 35 - Thetford 6
Crusaders followed up last week's victory at Mersea Island with an impressive win against Thetford.
The visitors who having recorded a good cup win against Cheshunt and a good league win over Newmarket started the game full of confidence and took an early lead with a penalty. Theo Elliot levelled the scores with a well struck penalty from out wide. With both sets of forwards sparring for ascendancy a high penalty count disrupted the first quarter, Thetford regained the lead with a second penalty. Thetford's lead didn't last long when following heavy pressure down the left flank, young Lewis Kenworthy darted over for Crusaders first try, converted by Elliot 10-6.
Both sides were now spinning the ball out wide at every opportunity much to the enjoyment of the spectators.
The second half began with an early Theo Elliot penalty quickly followed by a Max Wilson try, his first in front of a home side. Theo Elliot's conversion and a further penalty bringing the score 23 - 6.
Crusaders forwards were now in control and two futher trys from Rob Dye and hooker Dean Anderton secured the bonus point for Crusaders. A very pleasing start for new skipper Jack Boorman.
