Away Bonus Point Win

Eastern Counties One

Newmarket 7 Crusaders 37

Crusaders continued their good to start to the league campaign with a bonus point win at Newmarket.

The first 15 minutes of the game were quite even with Crusaders having the better of the pocession. Newmarket did have an opportunity to score first but the penalty kick went wide.
Crusaders scored first after a good period of play by the forwards gave space for the backs to run the ball through the hands ,a good pass by Max Wilson set Charlie Hawkins free to score in the corner 0-5 18th minutes. Crusaders kept pushing for another score but either good defending or the final pass going wayward kept the score to 0-5 till the 28th minute when again good hands by the backs saw Charlie Hawkins final pass to Max Wilson to go over in the corner 0-10 great conversion by Theo Elliott to make the score 0-12.
Crusaders carried on in the same vain and scored again in the same corner after brilliant inter play from backs and forwards saw Dean Anderton go over 0-17 after 32 minutes. From the restart Newmarket to there credit pushed for a try and scored after good work by the forwards under the post which was converted 7-17.
After good blindside move inside the Newmarket 22 the ball went out to Lewis Kenworthy to score the all important bonus point try. 7-22 after 36 minutes.
Half time 7-22
The second half started with a lot of stoppages with Newmarket front row feeling the pressure, this let to a disjointed 10 minutes.
The next score by Ben Barker was excellent good hands saw Ben slide through 3 or 4 tackles to score 7-27 after 49 minutes. Theo Elliott added a penalty to increase the lead to 7-32 after 60 minutes.
Newmarket then lost 2 of the front row quickly meaning the game went to uncontested scrums a forwards nightmare. Newmarket had by far their best period of the game camping on Crusaders line for a good 10 minutes but the defence was amazing and even after we went down to 14 men Newmarket could not cross the our line again. (harsh yellow card for the impressive Calum Reader for an infringement at a ruck).
Crusaders won a penalty on our line much to the delight of the travelling support and were able to clear their lines.
With a minute to go a great kick and chase saw the ball come loose in the Newmarket 22. Shouts from the side lines to kick the loose ball forward. Vince Cook got in a great kick to sent the ball over the Newmarket line and Ryan Harris out sprinted the home defence to touch down 7-37.
Final Score Newmarket 7 Crusaders 37.. Man Of The Match Jonathan Peter Blinkhorn
