Double over Swaffham

A sixteen point haul by Crusaders fly-half Jonathan Payne was more than enough to help to achieve this double over Swaffham. Crusaders always looked favourite but Swaffham fielding an experienced pack made them work for a full 80 minutes. Crusaders applied early pressure and stretched the visitors defence resulting in a penalty sweetly converted by Payne. With a plentiful supply of ball Crusaders spread the play wide but found it difficult to penetrate a tight Swaffham defence. Jonathan Payne unlocked the Swaffham defence with a peach of a grubber kick which he scooped up and dived over under the posts, his conversion followed by a further 40 metre penalty gave the home side a 13-0 lead.

Swaffham countered with a try of their own, their smooth running fullback touching down minutes before half-time 13-5.

In a second half where both sets of forwards ran the ball up the middle both defences were severely tested. Crusaders lay siege to the visitors line for long periods but Swaffham's defense held firm before Jonathan Payne added a further penalty 16-5.

With the clubs injury list showing signs of improving Crusaders look forward to a visit to Old Deer Park in a Junior Vase match against London Welsh amateurs on 27th February 2016.
