Crusaders out-gunned high-flying Ipswich YMCA by four tries to two to secure a second win of Season
Crusaders’ forwards supplied excellent ball for Joe Long, starting at fly-half after a long absence. The No 10 was an inspiration and always managed to cross the gain line before finding his three quarters.
A strong break from No 8 Blinkhorn, supported well by his forwards, gave Crusaders a scrum on the visitors’ 22, Quick ball enabled Long to break the Ipswich defence before feeding his brother Jordan for a try under the posts which Tristan Smith converted.
Both sides exchanged penalties before a try gave the visitors a 10-11 lead coming up to Half Time
Crusaders put on the pressure at the restart and excellent scrummaging gave Blinkhorn a platform to lay siege to the visitors’ line. He was held up on the line twice but made no mistake a third time to give the home side the lead. Half Time 15-11
A well worked inside pass from Joe Long to Ashley Smith cut Ipswich’s defence wide open and no one was going to stop the centre’s powerful run in under the posts. Ipswich pressure was finally rewarded with a converted try but Smith put the game beyond doubt with a strong run towards the post passing to Stuart Cameron who was backing him up to score his second try in as many games, converted by Tristan Smith.
A great team performance and Crusaders playing some excellent Rugby
