Final Kick Gives Us Losing Bonus Point
Wisbech 22-15 Crusaders
A very changed Crusader travelled to Wisbech. Missing Regular 9,10 and 12. The backs had to be shuffled around. Ryan Harris moving to Scrum Half Dean Anderton in the Centre Tristan Smith to 10 Sean Patterson to Wing and George King at Full back
With all these changes you could have thought we would struggle but to be fair we ended up leaving Wisbech feeling unlucky not to win or leave with a draw.
The home side used the wind to their advantage in the first half and scored two tries one converted. Crusaders had good spells in the Wisbech half and were 3 times unlucky not to score.
Half Time 12-0
The second half saw Crusaders use the wind well but could not score. After good pressure from the forwards Wisbech picked up 2 quick yellow cards. Crusaders had a scrum in front of the posts and after a good shove the ref lost patience with the home side and a well-deserved penalty try was awarded converted by Tristan Smith. 12-7 Game on.
Wisbech 10 scored a good drop goal minutes after to take them 15-7 up. Again Crusaders pushed for a score but good cover defence saw Wisbech hold firm. The turning point of the game came after Wisbech made good ground deep into Crusaders 22 the ball was picked up and driven on the player was stopped short but 2 movements more saw the ref give a very dubious try to the home side with the conversion taken 22-7.
Crusaders never gave up and some great play from the forwards saw the ball pop out wide to the stand in winger Sean Patterson to score his first league try conversion just fell short 22-12.
The last minutes were hectic and also saw Wisbech forward sent off for a punch. In the last minute Crusaders got a penalty in front of the posts. With the last kick of the game Tristan Smith slotted over to give us a losing bonus point.
In a side with so many changes in the backs we did so well and were unlucky not to get more out of the game
Man of the Match Captain Lewi White was unbelievable in the line out winning all his ball and stealing plenty of the opposition’s balls. Lewi also kept the boys discipline well under a lot of aggression from the opposition
