On paper this looked like a close contest between Crus and the Medics, but the end result was far from close ! With Trevor away on International duty the Team was left in the hands of Chris and Rich to organise on the day. From the off it was uncontested scrums as the Medics were short of a prop, which would mean that Crus would not be able to utilise their supposed scrum advantage, but in reality this enabled the Crus forwards to contribute to some excellent running rugby.Crusaders scored their first try after 4 mins, with Tom Fiddy and his 'Tache' crashing over the line. This was swiftly followed with tries from Martin Daniels, Stu Byrne, Zac Manan,Chris Hallam and a further 2 from Stu Byrne to get his hat-trick ! Alex Stone converted one of the tries, again aided by his 'tache'. The tries were scored by great support play and off-loads, and because there were no scrums to tie up the forwards, they were this able to join in with the backs to play fast and open rugby.
Half time score 37 - 0.
The second half started much the same as the first half with 2 quick tries from Connor Howard, converted by Alex Stone and Tim Zalynski. There followed a 20 minute spell where the Medics got back into the game and it was only strong Crusaders defence that kept a very spirited Medics team from scoring. After one of the Medics left the field through injury, leaving them with only 14 players on the field, Crusader did the Sporting thing and also reduced their team to 14. There then followed another bout of scores from Tom, Kieran Hipperson, Sean Paterson and Connor Howards 3rd. Tim Zalynski converting 3 and Alex Stone 1. A superb allround performance, and credit to the Medics for their effort and commitment.
Final score Crusaders 78 - Medics 0
Trevor - you missed a corker !!!
