Wisbech 2nd's to strong for Crus

Wisbech 2nd's v Crusaders 2nd's
After last Saturdays win against the Medics we looked in good shape to travel over to Wisbech with a strong team. Having checked their website that night I saw that their 1st Team didn't have a fixture so fully expected a few 'ringers' in their squad. As the week progressed our team shrank as players dropped out due to works commitments and 'Dad' duties but we still had a reasonable team. On arriving at Wisbech it became clear that there where more than 1 or 2 extra players. As it turned out they had a hooker, no 8, scum half, 2 centres and a fullback 'coming back from injury' which might or might not be true, suffice to say they were good players and made a massive difference.
We spent the first half thinking about what they were going to do and how many they would score, which turned out to be just over 50 I think ?
We then we grew some, maned up and started playing, getting in their faces and putting pressure on them ! A very good second half performance and a huge improvement, thought the forwards played really, really well and the backs who had a tough job against those centres and full back stuck at it all day long. Normally we have 6 or 7 subs on the bench and I would have taken Tim and Liam off, but we had no subs left due to Scott and Chris coming on for Calum R and James W, so they stayed on the field and made a nuisance of themselves. We probably gave Wisbech 4 easy tries by missed tackles and lack of concentration but our tries came from hard work, commitment and a desire to show them we wouldn't lay down - we earned their respect yesterday. Three second half tries, one from a quick tap penalty from Capt Tim, another penalty and drives saw Chris H drive over and a long range effort saw Tim run a great angle to break the first line before passing to Martin who had the best part of 30m to run, introducing a Wisbech player to the 'Heartsease Hand-off' on the way, and if you don't know what that is ask ! Kieran added a conversion.
Final whistle - walked off heads held high, respect earned, batter and bruised but all the better players for it.
Well done lads, hope those injuries heel quickly as it's UEA at home next weekend.
