First League Game

First league of the season against L & Y 2

Score 17-17
For the first game of the season had a very strong side out with all of the starting pack having played first team rugby and a good back line with first team experience. We new that L & Y would have a strong pack but to my surprise had a young back line.

The game started with both sides feeling there way into the game Crusaders having the better of the early encounters. A good break after good ball from the forwards saw a good move with the back with the final pass going a miss other wise we would have scored in the corner.
Good ball again by the forwards in L & Y 22 saw cocky power over from fly half to score in the corner. 5-0 to Crus conversion just missed. Some great tackling in the midfield especially from man of the match Trevor stopped L & Y creating any chances.
A good scrum from Crus in the L & Y 22 saw Chappy pick up and pass on the blind side for Rob Loone to go over a score a good try 10-0 conversion missed. By this stage we could have been further ahead but good cover tackling and rucking from L & Y kept the score down to 10-0 at half time.
The second half started badly for Crus and off a good catch and drive L & Y scored in the corner 10-5 conversion missed. L & Y tails were then up and for some good tackling from all the players we would have conceded again.
A strong platform was given to the backs from the forwards and a following move saw Tristan score under the posts 15-5 Rob Lonne converting to make the score 17-5(thought game over). But L & Y never ave up and a good break saw them score under the posts 17-10 conversion kicked 17-12.
Another break and missed tackle by us saw L & Y score again 17-17 conversion missed THEW!!
For the final ten minutes of the game Crusaders re grouped and looked as if had won the game when we went over but the ref judged the ball had not been grounded. Final score 17-17. A game we maybe should have won, but massive positives coming out of first league game well done to all the players. Holt 3 at home Saturday and the Medics for the 3s. Busy day for me
