Bonus Point Win At Swaffham
Swaffham 7 Crusaders 28
Crusaders made the short trip to Swaffham and on arrival could tell the team were really up for this game. Good to see Captain Lewi White back in the starting line-up.
Crusaders started strongly and put Swaffham under a lot of pressure pushing them back into their own 22. A penalty was given to Crusaders after the home side collapsed the scrum. The kick was put deep into the 22. From the line out Swaffham had no answer to the rolling maul with Henry Joy going over to score after just 5 minutes the conversion kicked by Theo Elliott. 0-7.
Crusaders took the re start well and again making good ground in the forwards the ball came out to the backs and a good hands saw George King smash into his opposite number the ball quickly went blind side where Dean Anderton made a great break the final pass just going wayward. Swaffham won the scrum but a great chase down from Sean Patterson saw the ball fly back of Swaffham heads. Sean secured the ball and quick ball to flying winger James Garner saw him score in the corner 0-12 Theo slotting the conversion from out wide 0-14.
Swaffham had a little spell of ball in hand but the defence was outstanding and the hosts were making no head way towards Crusaders line.
After 35 minutes Crusaders were pushing for the 3rd try on Swaffham line, an excellent line was cut by Ryan Harris saw him break 3 tackles to score under the posts 0-19 Theo again converting 0-21.
The second half was more equal but Crusaders were making all the scoring chances another great break from Dean down the blindside saw the final pass just go a miss. Great work from Greg Thurston saw him jig through the Swaffham defence being brought down just short good play by the forwards to secure saw the impressive Robert Dye crash over for the all-important bonus point try. 0-26.Again Theo kicked from the touchline to make the score 0-28 with 20 minutes to go.
In the last 5 minutes Swaffham put some pressure on the Crusaders line and after 3 penalties Robert Craigs was harshly yellow carded. Swaffham took a quick penalty and finally crashed over under the posts conversion taken 7-28 final score.
This was a great team performance every player gave everything man of the match going to Dean Anderton it’s been great to see him and Sean Patterson blossom this season in the first team.
Next league game home to Mersea Island on 31/01/2015. A team that have become a bit of a bogey side for us on this performance cannot see us losing
