A wet and windy morning at Crusaders was met by 2 teams who were pushing for a good start to the season. We welcomed Holt in a season starter and the season started well for both teams showing early progression from last season, it was Holt whoever who took the early initiative scoring an early try before the crusader lads worked there way into the game through some hard work and good tactical play but it was Holt who scored another 3 unanswered tries through some missed tackles and some very strong running and support play from Holt who worked the ball very well through the crusaders team.
The second half started very much like the start but with the Crusaders lads working together to reduce Holt, through some hard work deep in the Holt 22 the crusaders forwards tried putting their stamp on the game before an injury to Mac lead us to continue playing with an already reduced team, Holt having the numerical advantage again took the initiative of the game scoring another 3 tries, but this was credit to the crusaders boys who continued working hard and if it wasn’t for some excellent tackling from Reuben, Ross, Alex and Will the score could of been a lot more.
With 5 minutes to go all the lads pulled together to push and bully the Holt forwards down the pitch and we’re pushing themselves together working as a team, that as coaches we knew they could, and managed to get a push over try with some strong running from Phil, Nathan before Harry, Jenson joined in and helped the team get over the lane for Phil to score his first try for Crusaders. This gave all the boys some strong belief that they could compete with the big boys and continue their progression.
There are plenty of things to work on but we’re looking stronger and stronger!!
